Position Overview:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced ACCA / ACA Accounting Professional to join our Finance Team on a fixed term maternity cover based at Barbour House, South Shields. The role will be responsible for leading a large team covering two geographical locations, multiple divisions, and currencies. You will lead four key domains – Group External Compliance, Credit Management, Inventory and Treasury functions. This role forms a key part of the Finance Lead Team and interacts with all levels of the business as well as represents the business with banks, auditors, government organisations, customers, and third-party suppliers.

To be successful and enjoy the role it will take a strong combination of a detail orientated individual who has the bandwidth to manage both the strategic and the tactical, through delivering individually and leading a team to collectively deliver more. A skill set and experience of working either directly within a US GAAP and compliance environment or for a US-based company would be very valuable given the focus and responsibility for external compliance and cash management and collection in North America that this role will lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary owner of Group consolidation of accounts including balance sheet and P&L on regular monthly basis – including reconciliation to internal management accounts with issues.
  • Responsible for the Group Balance sheet, ensuring monthly reconciliation, strong controls and issue resolution including monthly reviews.
  • Responsible for external compliance of Barbour Inc in USA – sales tax, audit, property tax, state and federal tax partnering with 3rd party audit and tax firm where appropriate.
  • Responsible for external compliance in UK, NL & IT – EC Sales, Intrastat, VAT returns, Audit, Corp Tax, Tax efficiency programs around transfer pricing and partnering with relevant 3rd party audit and tax firm where appropriate.
  • Channel oversight and ownership for DTC sales within the UK & US businesses including budgeting, reforecasting, and analysis.
  • Responsible for compliance to trade terms and cash generation improvements across wholesale, distributor, e-com, and retail channels for JBS and Barbour Inc businesses.
  • Key point of escalation and problem solving with all customers (2,000 +) across both divisions – escalating both externally where appropriate and internally to gain traction from Sales Director and lead team.
  • Ownership and oversight of credit management ensuring company targets are met without risking business assets, making decisions regarding the release of product or not to key customers and business partnering with the sales functions.
  • Oversight of Inventory within the UK & US business, ensuring compliance stock take schedules and working to resolve issues with stock control.
  • Oversight of merchant services including those within retail outlets and our online platforms, supporting the ecommerce growth of the business and being the point of escalation for issues ensuring timely resolution.
  • Managing team (10 FTE- 5 Indirect) through performance objectives, continuous improvement, internal controls, and delivery of key core roles and KPIs.
  • System super-user and lead across Financial Accounting, Credit Management and Treasury – providing guidance, support, training to team.

Skills and Experience:

  • ACCA or ACA qualified
  • Degree level education
  • Experience of managing a team – onsite and remotely
  • Experience of US GAAP and US external compliance requirements
  • Experience of managing multi-currency cash flow, forecasts, cash pooling and FX planning/strategies
  • System ERP super-user expertise across Accounting, External Compliance, Treasury and Credit Management
  • Experience of dealing directly with external bodies e.g., HMRC, Auditors and USA equivalents
  • Excellent Financial Accounting understanding, group consolidation of accounts and external compliance preparation, reporting and submissions
  • Very strong Excel skills
  • Right first-time attitude and high level of accuracy
